When the sun reaches 90 degrees of ecliptic longitude and its dazzling rays nearly shine directly on the Tropic of Cancer, we welcome the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, one of the 24 solar terms. This solar term is not only an important astronomical point but also carries profound cultural connotations, witnessing the vigorous growth of all things in nature and the rhythm of life.

The Summer Solstice is precisely described as "the day when the sun reaches its northernmost point, the longest day of the year, and the shortest shadow occurs. Hence, it is called the Summer Solstice." At this time, the sun's altitude reaches its maximum for the entire year, and all regions in the Northern Hemisphere experience the longest day of the year. In areas along the Tropic of Cancer, at noon, the sun almost directly shines on the top of the head, and the shadows of objects shrink to the shortest length, as if being swallowed by the sun's warmth.

The temperature is rising, the sunlight is scorching, as if trying to roast the earth. The air is filled with a muggy atmosphere, making one feel the power of summer. However, the weather after the summer solstice is not only hot; frequent thunderstorms have become another prominent feature of this season.

The cicadas, sensing the emergence of the yin energy, flap their wings and chirp, as if playing an intense melody for the summer season. Meanwhile, the yin-loving herb Atractylodes grows quietly in marshes or paddy fields, serving as a reminder that the summer has already passed halfway.

In the eyes of the ancients, there was a precise description: "At the summer solstice, the sun reaches its northernmost point, the day is at its longest, and the shadow is at its shortest. Hence, it is called the Summer Solstice." At this time, the sun's altitude reaches its maximum value for the entire year, and all regions in the Northern Hemisphere experience the longest day of the year. In areas along the Tropic of Cancer, at noon, the sun almost directly shines on the top of the head, and the shadows of objects shrink to the shortest point, as if being swallowed by the warmth of the sun.

Since ancient times, the Summer Solstice has been an important festival, and there are various customs among the people. During the Summer Solstice, which coincides with the harvest of wheat, people hold rituals to worship their ancestors, hoping to pray for a bountiful harvest and to ward off disasters and have a prosperous year.

In some areas, people grind the newly harvested wheat into flour and use it to make various delicacies, offering them to their ancestors as a sign of respect and gratitude. At the same time, they also share the joy of the harvest with their family and friends. This reverence and gratitude towards ancestors embodies the traditional Chinese virtue of attaching importance to agriculture and cherishing family ties.

"Dumplings on Winter Solstice and Noodles on Summer Solstice", eating noodles on Summer Solstice is a custom that exists in many places in China. At this time, new wheat is available, and eating noodles not only has the meaning of trying something new, but also symbolizes longevity. In the north, people like to eat fried sauce noodles and braised meat noodles. The rich sauce combined with the firm noodles leaves a lingering aftertaste.

In the south, special types of noodles such as Yangchun noodles and piexian noodles are also very popular. Besides, during the Summer Solstice, a large variety of fruits like watermelons, bitter gourds and lychees come into the market. Watermelons are sweet and juicy, refreshing and hydrating, making them excellent for cooling off in hot weather. Bitter gourds, though bitter, have the effect of clearing heat and reducing fire, and are thus highly favored by people.

The Summer Solstice is the day with the longest daylight of the year, as if time itself is infinitely elongated. During this long summer, we feel the vigorous power of life and should cherish every moment. Just as the ancients said: "Time has feet and should be cherished; the book field has no tax and should be diligently cultivated." In this season when everything is lush and flourishing, we should be like the creatures in nature, actively upward and striving to grow.

The difficulties and setbacks in life are like the scorching heat of summer. As long as we have an optimistic attitude, we can turn them into the driving force for progress. Don't fear difficulties, don't complain about life, always maintain a love for life and confidence in the future. Seek hope in difficult situations and achieve self-breakthrough through challenges.

The Summer Solstice also reminds us that there is an alternation between yin and yang, and that the peak of something will inevitably lead to its decline. In the journey of life, we must learn to adjust ourselves at the right time and grasp the rhythm. In favorable circumstances, we should not become arrogant or complacent, but maintain a clear mind and be prepared for potential dangers; in adverse circumstances, we should not lose heart, accumulate strength, and wait for the right moment.
